Morning time holds the potential to set the cadence for the rest of your day and, arguably, the rest of your life. Rather than rolling out of bed, stretched for time, corralling children and forgoing giving yourself even an ounce of spaciousness, the rest of the day feels hectic, scattered and generally fatiguing.

Can you relate?! I most certainly can. For years, I'd hit the alarm button and roll over. A morning person I am certainly not. Fast forward several years and mornings are now my absolute favorite time of day. As previously mentioned, a hectic morning leads to a hectic day, so perhaps the inverse is also true. A slow, intentional, spacious morning leads to a productive, intentional and spacious day.

This comes down to the functional role of the nervous system. I once heard Andrea, our lead clinician, speak to the idea of 'anchoring', choosing one or several things you do every single day without fail. These serve as the anchors that our nervous system depends on. It might be drinking warm water upon waking, sitting in silence after your children are off to school, going outside for 5 minutes or even as simple as brushing your teeth! Give yourself time to set the cadence for your day!
